This past week, a friend asked me if I could choose one word for the year 2017, what it would be. After thinking for a few minutes, I concluded “helpfulness” because it is so challenging. I want to be helpful in my head, but often my actions and words fall way short. Helpfulness is the lifeblood of a servant leader, which I am desiring to become, and I am determined to make 2017 the breakthrough year in taking the next steps in being a better servant.
I have discovered it is about establishing the right mindset in being a servant leader versus a command and control leader. My desire is not to be a perfect servant, but to operate and think more from the servant mindset than I had in the past. I see it as a process that allows life circumstances constantly to be teaching me how to best serve to celebrate others’ successes.
I wonder what would happen to sales numbers if all customer service and sales professionals operated more from the servant’s mindset.
