With a new year comes new goals, resolutions, or sometimes recommitments to previous ones. As we kick off another year, here are three Dale Carnegie quotes to take with you as a guide for the upcoming year.
“Today is life, the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto.”
We’re often reminded that life is short—typically when we find out some bad news. Don’t wait for a wake-up call to start living a life that makes you happy! Take some time to identify what you want your year to look like and what you want to accomplish in the next 12 months. Each day and month is a blank page waiting for you to write your story. Life is too short to waste it not being happy.
“Take a chance! All life is a chance. The man who goes furthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare.”
Allow yourself to dream and take a chance. Is there a goal you’ve carried for years but have always been too hesitant to put into action? Don’t let another year pass by where you don’t start taking steps to make it come true. While change and taking a risk can be scary, letting a dream die within you is scarier. You don’t have to do everything at once. Start with an action plan consisting of baby steps. Small action items are easier to swallow and less anxiety-inducing.
“People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing.”
Finally, as you run into 2022 make sure that you have fun! Whether it’s in your personal or professional life, it’s not likely you’ll stay disciplined long term if you don’t enjoy the journey. That’s not to say that accomplishing goals will always be fun, but they should at least line up with your values and bring you fulfillment where you can find joy along the journey. Make sure you have the right mindset on the hard days to remember your why. Carve out time for rest and relaxation along the way.
