The holiday season brings about quality time with family, friends, and even coworkers. And while we should put time and effort into our relationships year-round, there is something magical about the holiday season that drives people to put extra time and effort into the meaningful relationships they have in their lives. Here are three ways you can give to the people in your life:
Give Thanks
Sometimes the best gift you can give someone you care about is to give thanks for everything they do and contribute to your life. It’s easy to take our loved ones for granted in the hustle and bustle of life. Giving thanks shouldn’t be specific to just one day, but all days. Practice making gratitude and thankfulness a habit but take time to speak any gratitude you may have towards others as it pops into your head. You can even send others notes by mail or electronically to let them know you were thinking about them.
Give Acknowledgement
Besides being thankful towards others, it’s important to acknowledge others for the hard work they’ve been doing. Maybe it’s a co-worker—or an employee—that you know has been working extra hard throughout the year for the betterment of the company. Or maybe it’s a friend who has started their own business and inspires you daily. Making people feel seen is one of the greatest gifts you can give them.
Give Gifts
In the traditional sense, you can also give gifts to those you care about this holiday season. Whether it’s something thoughtful and specific to them, a gift card, or even something homemade, it’s hard not to feel special when someone surprises you with an unexpected gift. Seeing someone’s face light up may be the best gift you could receive back. After all, they do say it’s better to give than receive, and that’s probably because by giving, you’re also receiving.
“Try leaving a trail of little sparks of gratitude on your daily trips. You will be surprised how they will set small flames of friendship that will be rose beacons on your next visit.” –Dale Carnegie
